The Great Bend Fire Department’s annual run-walk for MDA will add chipped timers this year, Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said. The Nov. 7 event, which offers 10K, 5K and one-mile distances, also has a fun new name: The Stache Dash, and participants are encouraged to wear or grow mustaches. Additional awards will be given for the best real and fake mustaches.
Awards will be given to the first-place overall male and female in each run, and to the top three male and female runners in each age group for the 5K and 10K. Age groups will be in 10-year increments.
Early registration is going on now, and the fee is $15 for an individual or $40 for a team of four. T-shirts are an additional $10, or $12 for 2XL and 3XL.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Registration starts at 8 a.m. on Nov. 7, outside Fire Station 1, and the races will start at 9 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 16, is the deadline for early bird registration. The early bird pricing will remain in effect for another week, but anyone who wants to pick up a T-shirt on the morning of the race must be registered by Friday, Hayes said. For entry forms contact Mark Orth at the station, 1205 Williams St., 620-793-4140, email gbfd432@hotmail.com, or Hayes at the City Office, 1209 Williams St., 793-4111, email chayes@greatbendks.net.
