Barton County 4-H members were presented scholarships to further their education from the Barton County 4-H Holding Board, Chari Miller-Manry and the Carl and Evelyn Miller Memorial scholarship funds. The 4-H Holding Board Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation and all funds are used for the benefit of 4-H youth of Barton County. Matching funds for the Holding Board scholarships were provided by Chari Miller-Manry, in memory of Allan V. Miller who served as a volunteer 4-H leader for many years. Carl and Evelyn Miller were leaders for the Lakin Go-Getters 4-H club. Carl served on the 4-H Holding Board from 1969 through 1975.
Morgan Kaiser, a 2017 graduate of Great Bend High School, is a freshman at Kansas State University majoring in Business and Leadership. Morgan was a 4-H member for 8 years in the TLC Twisters 4-H Club. She served as president for her club and for the Barton County 4-H Council. In high school, she was active in cheerleading, dance, FBLA, FCA and many other activities. She is the daughter of Leonard and Brenda Kaiser, Great Bend.
Payton Mauler, a 2017 graduate of Great Bend High School, is majoring in Agronomy at Fort Hays State University. His 4-H accomplishments include the 4-H Gold Achievement pin and holding offices in the Busy Buzzers 4-H Club, 4-H Council and the county Livestock Committee. Payton also served as a 4-H Ambassador. In high school, he excelled in football, baseball, wrestling, FFA and several other organizations. He is the son of Jeff and Sally Mauler of Great Bend.
Mikey Hughes, a 2016 graduate of Ellinwood High School, is a sophomore at Kansas State University majoring in Ag Communications. A 12-year member of the Ellinwood Energizers 4-H Club, she also served as 4-H Council president and was a 4-H Ambassador for four years. Mikey was a State 4-H Youth Council member and a delegate to National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C., In high school, she was active in FFA, Debate/Forensics, NHS and several other organizations. She is the daughter of Wendy Hughes of Lyons and Taff Hughes of Ellinwood.
