Area students accept FHSU scholarships at recognition program in Great Bend

Several area students accepted Fort Hays State University scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year at a recent Student Recognition Program in Great Bend.
Area students include: Barton County Academy - Maranda Holmes, a 2011 Barton County Academy graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in art. Holmes, daughter of Brian and Stacy Holmes, Hutchinson, plans to major in art; Barton Community College - Sarah Figger, a transfer student from Barton Community College, accepted a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Figger, daughter of Matt and Laurie Figger, Larned, plans to major in social work; Matthew Koch, a 2008 Great Bend High School graduate and a transfer student from Barton Community College, accepted a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Koch, son of Kurtis and Debbie Koch, Great Bend, plans to major in business finance; Will Hodges, a 2009 Larned High School graduate and a transfer student from Barton Community College, accepted a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Hodges, son of Vernita Hodges, Larned, plans to major in graphic design; Chase High School - Amanda White, a 2011 Chase High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award from the College of Business and Leadership and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. White, daughter of Kevin and Shelley White, Chase, plans to major in business administration; Great Bend High School - Jonna Anspaugh, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health. Anspaugh, daughter of Todd and Tammy Anspaugh, Great Bend, plans to major in radiology, Abby Hammeke, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in music and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Hammeke, daughter of Colin and Lori Hammeke, Great Bend, plans to major in music performance, Sarah Henkle, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in art. Henkle plans to major in graphic design, Marcella McCluskey, a 2011 graduate of Great Bend High School, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in modern languages and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. McCluskey, daughter of Patrick and Letitia McCluskey, Great Bend, plans to major in education, Abigail Morrison, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education. Morrison, daughter of Steve and Denise Morrison, Great Bend, plans to major in elementary education, Cathrine Nelson, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in art and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Nelson, daughter of Edwin Nelson Jr. and Charlene Beach, Great Bend, plans to major in art, Brent Stoss, a 2011 Great Bend High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Stoss, son of Dale and Glenda Stoss, Olmitz, plans to major in chemistry; Larned High School: Kala Coulson, a 2011 Larned High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in modern language. Coulson, daughter of Shawn and Traci Coulson, Larned, plans to major in Spanish, Cesar Garcia II, a 2011 Larned High School graduate, accepted a $4,000 Access to Academic Opportunity Grant. Garcia, son of Cesar and Micaela Garcia, Garfield, plans to major in radiology, Kjersti Olsen, a 2011 Larned High School graduate, accepted a $1,200 Miller Black and Gold Academic Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Olsen, daughter of Lee Olson and Lydia Beason, Burdett, plans to major in psychology; Little River High School: Diane Miller, a 2011 Little River High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Miller, daughter of Don and Julie Miller, Geneseo, plans to major in elementary education; Lyons High School: Mathew Sparkman, a 2011 Lyons High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in athletic traning and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Sparkman, son of Brian and Linda Friess, Lyons, plans a career in athletic training; Otis-Bison Junior-Senior High School: David Caudill II, a 2011 Otis-Bison Junior-Senior High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education. Caudill, son of David and Peggy Caudill, Bison, plans to major in education, Cody Tuzicka, a 2011 graduate of Otis-Bison Junior-Senior High School, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in technology studies. Tuzicka, son of Brent and Debra Tuzicka, Timken, plans to major in technology studies; Pawnee Heights High School: Raylinn Nuckolls, a 2011 graduate of Pawnee Heights High School, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Nuckolls, daughter of Daniel and Traci Nuckolls, Burdett, plans to major in psychology; Pratt Community College: Brian Stackhouse, a 2009 Cunningham High School graduate and a Pratt Community College transfer student, accepted a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Stackhouse, son of Bob and Mary Stackhouse, Cunningham, plans to major in graphic design; Russell High School: Brooks Berens, a 2011 Russell High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in justice studies. He also won the drawing for a $400 Student Recognition Program scholarship. Berens, son of Joe and Marcie Berens, Russell, plans to major in justice studies, Elizabeth Wisehart, a 2011 Russell High School graduate, accepted a $500 Copper Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in communication disorders. Bryan Figger, a 2011 St. John High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award from the Department of Physics and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Figger, son of David and Kathy Figger, Hudson, plans a career in engineering.
