Barton Community College has awarded cheerleading scholarships for 2010-11.

The cheerleading scholarship recipients are selected by Barton’s head cheer coach Debbie Warren. The following students, listed by hometown, have been selected for Barton cheerleading scholarships:

Andale

Kyle Veith, a 2010 graduate of Andale High School, has been active in football for three years, track two years, cheerleading one year, Outdoor Club one year, and wrestling one year. He is the son of Anthony and Denise Veith, Andale, and plans to major in agriculture/agronomy.

Bennington

Julie Kierscht, a 2010 graduate of Bennington High School, has been active in cheerleading for four years, dance one year, basketball four years, volleyball three years and track three years. She served as a Student Council representative for one year and president for one year. She also has been active in Friends of Rachel one year and TRUCE (Teens Resisting Unhealthy Choices Everyday) one year. She is the daughter of Craig and Donna Kierscht, Bennington, and she plans to major in business management and leadership.

Copeland

Shaelyn Kisner, a 2010 graduate of South Gray High School in Montezuma, has been active in volleyball, basketball, track, cheerleading, vocal music, band, forensics, Kansas Association for Youth, Students Against Driving Drunk, Student Council, Women’s Letter Cub and 4-H. She earned membership in the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Vern and Angie Kisner, Copeland, and plans to major in athletic training.

Eudora

Carissa Nott, a 2010 graduate of Lawrence High School, has been active in gymnastics, LINK Crew and varsity cheerleading. She is the daughter of Mrs. Leslie Payne, Lawrence, and has chosen a major in athletic training with a minor in business.

Great Bend

Hillary Nairn, a 2010 graduate of Great Bend High School, has been active in dance line, A Cappella Choir, Kayettes, Future Educators of America, Argonne All Stars and Pep Club. She plans to be an occupational therapy assistant major. She is the daughter of Mike and Wendy Nairn, Great Bend, and granddaughter of the late Jim Nairn, who was a member of the original faculty at Barton and retired after 30 years with the college.

Hesston

Jessica Betts, a 2010 graduate of Hesston High School, has been active in cross country, forensics, track, cheerleading, Villa Club and Singers. She is the daughter of Tim and Cindy Betts, Hesston, and has not yet decided on a major.

Morgan Lowery, a 2010 graduate of HHS, has been active in softball for four years and basketball for one year. She is the daughter of Rocky Lowery, Wichita, and Tina Hager, Hesston, and plans to major in radiology.

Hoisington

Corey Engstrom, a 2010 graduate of Hoisington High School, has been active in wrestling, football and track. He is the son of Belinda Engstrom, Hoisington, and has not yet decided on a major.

Tanner Klug, a 2010 graduate of HHS, has been active in football, basketball, baseball, track and powerlifting. He is the son of Jayne Boese and Terry Klepper, and plans to major in athletic training.

Minneola

Erin Sughroue, a 2010 graduate of Dodge City High School, has been active in cheerleading, drill team, track and field, volleyball, basketball, choir and band. She is the daughter of Tomi Sughroue, Minneola, and Pat Sughroue, Phillipsburg, and plans to major in biology.

Norton

Shelby Jones, a 2010 graduate of Norton Community High School, has been active in volleyball, basketball, track, cheerleading, Pep Band, Kansas Association for Youth, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Students Against Driving Drunk. She also has been a teacher’s aide. She is the daughter of Don and Jenda Jones, Norton, and plans to enter Barton’s Medical Laboratory Technician Program.

Plains

Cade Wallace is a 2010 graduate of Southwestern Heights High School where he was active in cheerleading as captain. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chad Wallace, Plains, and plans to pursue a major in physical therapy.

Wichita

Casey Amos, a 2010 graduate of Campus High School, has been active in cheer/yell leading for two years, soccer two years, track four years, orchestra four years, and Student Council for three years, including one year as executive treasurer. He was chosen as an All-American nominee two years. He is the son of Joe and Angi Amos, Wichita, and plays to pursue a major in pre-pharmacy and a minor in leadership.

Lauren Minton, a 2010 graduate of Goddard High School, has been active in Science Club, Outloud, cheerleading, powerlifting and track. She is the daughter of David Minton and Jennifer Juarez.

Kara Vilaysing, a 2009 graduate of Goddard High School, has been active in Pep Club, Book Club, varsity cheerleading and Cheer Eclipse. She is a U.S. All Star Federation Worlds Competitor and is USASF certified. She is the daughter of Michele Rice and Gary Vilaysing.

Wasilla, Alaska

Gerald Johnson, a 2007 graduate of Colony High School, has been active in football, cheerleading, drama and choir. He is the son of Gerald and Samantha Johnson, Wasilla, and plans to major in general studies.

Centennial, Colo.

Avrial Corn, a 2010 graduate of Grandview High School, has been active in cheerleading and LINK Crew. She is the daughter of Mark and Marlys Corn, Centennial, Colo., and plans to major in chemistry.

Fort Collins, Colo.

Jennah Agboyani, a 2010 graduate of Fossil Ridge High School, has been active in cheerleading for seven years and received awards in competitive cheerleading. She also has been active in gymnastics for seven years. She is the winner one national title, one world title, six state titles, and four grand championships in cheer competition. She is the daughter of Renee and Robert Agboyani, Fort Collins, Colo.

Loveland, Colo.

Annie DeTomasi, a 2010 graduate of Loveland High School, is the daughter of Anthony and Lori DeTomasi, Loveland, Colo. She plans to major in biology.
