Barton awards endowed scholarships as achievement and merit awards

Barton Community College has announced recipients of 2010-11 endowed scholarships based on academic achievement and merit. These scholarships are given by the Barton Community College Foundation.

The following students, listed by high school, are recipients of these endowed scholarships:

Bennington High School

Chance Glavin, a 2010 graduate of Bennington High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in criminal justice/business. He is a recipient of the Helen M. Koopman Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Shayne and Michelle Glavin, Bennington.

Chase High School

Ethan Duntz, a 2009 graduate of Chase High School, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in agriculture management. He is a recipient of the Al Yost Honorarium Scholarship as a merit award. He is the son of Vernon and Debra Duntz, Raymond.

Claflin High School

Sean Demel, a 2010 graduate of Claflin High School, is a freshman automotive technology major. He is a recipient the George Tregellas Chairman’s Scholarship as a merit award. He is the son of Dale Demel and Shelley Yahne-Wear.

Clifton-Clyde High School

Seth Derusseau, a 2010 graduate of Clifton-Clyde High School, is a freshman history major at Barton. He is a recipient of the Dan and Nancy Peschka Honorarium Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Mike and Cindy Derussseau, Clyde.

Ellinwood High School

Jessica Siefers, a 2009 graduate of Ellinwood High School, is a sophomore art education major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Clarence and Lucile Lebbin Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. At Barton, she has shown her work in the Barton Student Art Exhibition at the Shafer Gallery and she placed second in Barton’s Sidewalk Art Contest. She is the daughter of John Siefers and Teresa Wilson.

Malinda Snow, a 2009 graduate of EHS, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in secondary education. She is a recipient of the Genevieve Schulz Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Gladys Snow and Brian Snow.

Goddard High School

Lauren Minton, a 2010 graduate of Goddard High School, is a freshman business major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Tony and Edna Schartz Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Jennifer Juartz, Wichita.

Great Bend High School

Ricardo Acosta, a 2009 graduate of Great Bend High School, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in physical education. He is a recipient of the Clair and Jean Cavanaugh Scholarship as a merit award. At Barton he received an athletic training scholarship and is a member of the Hispanic American Leadership Organization. He is the son of Manuel and Socorro Acosta, Great Bend.

Lynelle Bettis, a 2009 graduate of GBHS, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in radiology. She is a recipient of the Kansas Gas Service Scholarship as a merit award. At Barton, she is dance line manager. She is the daughter of Pam and Mike Perry, Great Bend.

Garrett Campbell, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in biology. He is a recipient of the Barton County Bar Association Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Gary and Deidre Campbell, Great Bend.

Kelly Crissman, a 2009 graduate of GBHS is a sophomore at Barton majoring in nursing. She is a recipient of the Kummer Family Scholarship as an achievement award. At Barton, she is active in the Nursing Club. She is the daughter of Doug and Karla Crissman, Great Bend.

Jordan Elliott, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in computer technology. He is a recipient of the Danny and Darlene Biggs Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Chris and Sheryl Elliott, Great Bend.

Katlyn Feldman, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a freshman accounting major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Kansas Gas Service Scholarship as a merit award. She is the daughter of Duane and Sandy Feldman, Great Bend.

Auden Galindo, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a freshman at Barton. He is a recipient of the Clair and Jean Cavanaugh Scholarship as a merit award. He is a member of Barton’s men’s soccer team. He is the son of Jesus and Cecilia Galindo, Great Bend.

Yvonne Johnson, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a freshman graphic design major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Stickney Coors/Veterans Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of David and Lisa Johnson, Great Bend.

Alicia Segura, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a freshman at Barton majoring in business. She is a recipient of the Clair and Jean Cavanaugh Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Cipriano and Irma Segura, Great Bend.

Samantha Ware, a 2010 graduate of GBHS, is a freshman business major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Sunflower Bank Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Karl and Sue Ware, Great Bend.

Hanover High School

Johnathan Rahe, a 2010 graduate of Hanover High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in criminal justice/law enforcement. He is a recipient of the Donna Schmidt Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Todd and Becky Rahe, Hanover.

Hoisington High School

Abbie Schremmer, a 2009 graduate of Hoisington High School, is a sophomore accounting major at Barton. She is a recipient of the Clifford and Pauline Getz Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Tim and Melissa Schremmer, Hoisington.

Kinsley High School

Heather Crockett, a 2010 graduate of Kinsley High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in early childhood development. She is a recipient of the George Tregellas Chairman’s Scholarship as a merit award. She is the daughter of Lisa Crockett and the late Dale Crockett.

Macksville High School

Lyndzi Burian, a 2010 graduate of Macksville High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in early childhood education at Barton. She is a recipient of the Helen M. Koopman Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Georgia Hemphill, Radium.

Maize High School

Matt Sherrod, a 2010 graduate of Maize High School, is a freshman majoring in pre-medicine. He is a recipient of the Clifford and Pauline Getz Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Steve and Kim Sherrod, Wichita.

Ness City High School

Katie Delaney, a 2010 graduate of Ness City High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in nursing. She is a recipient of the Keith and Marian Mull Honorarium Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Gene and Judy Delaney, Ness City.

Osborne High School

Megan Berkley, a 2010 graduate of Osborne High School, is a freshman at Barton majoring in business management. She is a recipient of the William C. Wells Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. She is the daughter of Donita Shike and Calvin Berkley.

Thunder Ridge High School, Kensington

Kellie Henderson, Phillipsburg, a 2009 graduate of Thunder Ridge High School, is a sophomore at Barton majoring in social work/psychology with a minor in counseling. She is a recipient of the Keith and Marian Mull Honorarium Scholarship. At Barton, she served as an athletic trainer in her freshman year.

Washington High School

Robert Harrell, a 2010 graduate of Washington High School, is a freshman journalism major at Barton. He is a recipient of the Helen M. Koopman Memorial Scholarship as an achievement award. He is the son of Jeanne Chambers, Kansas City.
