Barton Community College President Dr. Carl Heilman was recently recognized for his years of service to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
A plaque presented by Bryce Roderick, commissioner of the conference, states, “Presented in grateful appreciation … for your commitment to KJCCC Athletics and for your years of service to the KJCCC as an Executive Committee Member and Conference President.”
Roderick said Dr. Heilman is deserving of the award for his time and dedication.
“Dr. Heilman has proven to be an effective leader for our conference. He has always shown leadership and vision in making the KJCCC one of the premier conferences in the nation,” Roderick said. “He has been a ‘forward thinker,’ not only at Barton Community College, but also in guiding the KJCCC in the time he was our president.”
Dr. Heilman said his involvement is time well spent for the benefit of the students.
He said the KJCCC is valuable because it promotes sportsmanship and character development, maintains and promotes standards in which athletics supports academic achievement and maintains and promotes the integrity of team sports.
“I am pleased to have received the support of my fellow colleagues in leading the Jayhawk conference; which is one of the strongest, if the not the strongest community college athletic conference in the nation,” Heilman said. “It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to have an opportunity to contribute to the on-going successes of Kansas community college athletics.”
Heilman has also begun his second consecutive year serving as the chairman for the Kansas Community College Council of Presidents.
