Each year the Kansas Music Educators Association’s Southwest District holds auditions for honor groups that perform at their mini-conventions in November. This year six Great Bend Middle School Band students were selected by audition to be part of the SWKMEA Middle School Honor Band. The students will perform a concert with other band students from the southwest section of Kansas at 3:15 p.m, on Nov. 4, at Dodge City Middle School.
The students will be working with a guest clinician throughout the morning and early afternoon to perfect the music that they have been practicing prior to the event. This year the clinician is a familiar face to Barton County as Steven Lueth, the band director and professor at Barton Community College, will be the conductor.
The concert will also showcase a high school jazz ensemble and a middle school chorus.
