The Great Bend 7th and 8th Grade Bands under the direction of Don Regehr and Mark DeWald showed off their talent on Monday, Feb. 13, at the Great Bend Middle School gymnasium.
The 7th-grade started the evening by playing “Glorioso” by Robert Smith, “Success March” by Harold Bennett, “Newport Overture” by John O’Reilly and ending with “Year of the Dragon” by Michael Sweeney. The 8th-grade band featuring soloist Cal Dunekack on the trumpet completed the musical evening with “The Patriots Concert March” by David Shaffer, “Blue Lake Reflections” by Ed Huckeby and “Arrowhead Overture” by Jerry Williams.
In addition to the concert Monday, both bands performed at an in-house competition on Wednesday where they received 1 ratings.
“The students really stepped up and performed very well,” Regehr said. “I was proud of the performances.” The band directors also thanked those who assisted in stacking chairs and stands after the concert.
