Kansas State University Scholarship
The Kansas State University Scholarship was established by alumni, businesses and individuals in the Golden Belt area. The scholarship provides financial assistance to local students interested in obtaining a college education from Kansas State University. The 2013 Kansas State University Scholarship recipients are as follows:
Taylor Fry is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. She participated in state music competitions, the city band, and was a musician for Prince of Peace Parish. Fry is majoring in Business Management and Piano.
Bonny Boultinghouse is a 2013 Great Bend High School graduate. Boultinghouse participated in softball, volleyball, dance, pep club and 4-H, all fours years of high school. She will be majoring in Business Administration.
Brett Lyman is a 2010 Ellinwood High School graduate. He will be a Kansas State University senior, majoring in Biology/Pre-Dentistry. Lyman participates in Wildcats Forever, K-State Singers, and K-State Proud.
Chris Burley is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. He will major in Chemical Engineering. Burley was a member of the football, wrestling, and track team. He also participated in German Club, World Language Club, and Future Farmers of America.
Alexandra Lessard is a 2013 graduate of Larned High School. She was a member of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Over Actors Anonymous, played tennis, ran cross country, and was a state qualifier in forensics. Lessard will major in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Rachael Herter is a 2013 graduate of Larned High School. She was on the basketball team for four years. She also participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Drama Club, and Vocal Ensemble. Herter plans to major in Journalism.
Allan V. Miller Family Scholarship
This is the sixth year for the Allan V. Miller Family Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was established by Chari Miller and her family, in memory of Allan Miller. The intent is to assist Great Bend and Ellinwood students in pursuit of an agriculture related college degree. The 2013 Allan V. Miller Family Scholarship recipients are:
Chase Boots is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. He participated in wrestling and Future Farmers of America. Boots plans to major in Animal Science, at Kansas State University.
Kyle Blakeslee is a 2013 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He plans to major in Agriculture Technology, at Barton Community College. Blakeslee participated in basketball, cross country, and tennis. He volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Drive and Future Eagles Camp.
Shawn Troyer is a 2012 graduate of Ellinwood High School. Taylor is currently a student at Barton Community College, majoring in Parks Management & Conservation. He participated in band and choir.
Colin Miller a 2012 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He is majoring in Agribusiness Management, at Kansas State University.
Dr. John J. Mingenback Memorial Scholarship
The Mingenback family recently awarded the seventh scholarship from the Dr. John J. Mingenback Health Professions Scholarship Fund at the Golden Belt Community Foundation. The scholarship was established by the Mingenback family for aspiring health practitioners, which encourages personal and professional commitment to the community.
Sheri Espinosa, of Albert, is the 2013 recipient of the Dr. John J. Mingenback Memorial Scholarship. Espinosa was a graduate of Great Bend High School and is currently attending Barton Community College. She is pursuing certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Bob and Rosalee Roth Family
The Bob and Rosalee Roth Family Scholarship was established by Bob and Rosalee Roth to benefit local Pawnee County students pursuing a higher education from the University of Kansas and to give back to their community.
Jacey Bishop, of Hanston, is the 2013 Bob and Rosalee Roth Family Scholarship recipient. Bishop is a 2013 graduate of Larned High School. In high school, she was active in student council, debate, forensics, and art. Bishop will be attending Kansas University, majoring in Pre-Law.
Vida M., Dorothy C., and Vivian M. Archer Scholarship
This is the first award from the Vida M., Dorothy C., and Vivian M. Archer Scholarship. This fund was established to help students of Barton County. The first recipients of the Vida M., Dorthy C., and Vivian M. Archer Scholarship are as follows:
Brett Lyman, of Ellinwood, is currently attending Kansas State University. Lyman is going into his senior year at Kansas State University, majoring in Biology/Pre Dentistry. In high school, he participated in mystic blues, debate, concert choir, and cross country. He was also part of the student council.
Bonny Boultinghouse is a 2013 Great Bend High School graduate. She was a volunteer for the Salvation Army, Food Bank, and United Way. Boultinghouse was also a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council. She will be attending Kansas State University, majoring in Business Administration.
Taylor Wondra is a 2013 Great Bend High School graduate. She will be attending Barton Community College, majoring in Biology. Wondra was a member of the ACapella Choir and Future Educators of America. While in high school, she also obtained her Certified Nurses Aid certification.
Elizabeth Elliot is a 2010 graduate of Great Bend High School. She is currently attending the University of Kansas, majoring in Speech-Language-Hearing. She is a member of the KU Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Speech-Language-Hearing Honors Departmental Research.
Kayla Schartz is a 2012 graduate of Ellinwood High School. She is currently attending the University of Kansas, majoring in Journalism. Schartz is an alumni member of the Business Education Department. She participated in yearbook staff and was a Journalism School Ambassador, while attending high school.
Kathryn Barrett is a 2013 graduate of Hoisington High School. Barrett has been involved with music and tennis throughout high school. She will be attending Barton Community College, and is majoring in Nursing.
Jerome “Jerry” Becker Memorial Scholarship
This is the Becker family’s first scholarship from the Jerome “Jerry” Beck Memorial Scholarship. The Becker family established this scholarship for Great Bend High School seniors. The recipient may attend any college in the United States.
Madison Werth is the first scholarship recipient of the Jerome “Jerry” Becker Memorial Scholarship. Werth was a German Club participant, STUCO member, and on the golf team. Werth will be attending Barton Community College, majoring in Chiropractics.
Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship Fund
This is the Bealer family’s second scholarship from the Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ryan’s family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the engineering field. Ryan moved through his life with a uniquely gifted spirit and touched lives in a deep and quiet way. This scholarship is a way to continue to honor Ryan and promote his values.
Mitchell Johnson is the 2013 Ryan Joseph Bealer Memorial Scholarship recipient. Johnson is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. He excels in mathematics and is a National Honors Society Member. Johnson will be attending the Kansas State University and will major in Computer Engineering.
Charles Lischesky Scholarship – Great Bend Rotary Club
The Charles Lischesky Scholarship was established to benefit a Great Bend student pursuing a degree in the business field.
Peter Marston, of Great Bend, is the 2013 Charles Lischesky Rotary Club Scholarship recipient. Marston is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. He plans to major in Accounting, at Fort Hays State University.
Robert William Shewbart Park School Memorial Scholarship
This is the first award from the Robert William Shewbart Park School Memorial Scholarship. This fund was established to help seniors of Great Bend High, specifically those whom have also attended Park Elementary School. The family wanted to reach a well-rounded individual with experience in community service, extra-curricular activities and has a strong work ethic.
Antonio Carranza is the first recipient of the Robert William Shewbart Park School Memorial Scholarship. Carranza will be attending Barton Community College’s Automotive Program.
Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Dunlap family recently awarded the fourth scholarship from the Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship Fund. Ryan’s family created a scholarship fund for students wishing to enter the fields of education and/or sports medicine.
Abby Mitchell is the 2013 Ryan Hugh Dunlap Memorial Scholarship recipient. Mitchell is a 2013 graduate of Great Bend High School. In high school, she was a track and field participant, member of the choir, Drama Club, and student council. Mitchell plans to attend Barton Community College and major in Athletic Training.
Paul J. Urban Memorial Scholarship Fund
Paul J. Urban created this scholarship for Great Bend graduating seniors. Paul Urban graduated from Fort Hays State University and received his master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught math for 20 years at Great Bend High School. The 2013 Paul J. Urban Memorial Scholarship recipients are as follows:
Taylor Wondra will be attending Barton Community College, majoring in Biology. Wondra completed several college credit hours in high school. She was active in student council and UNICEF.
Ky Heeke will be attending Ottawa University and is considering a major in Athletic Training. Heeke is an avid volunteer for the Trail Blazer Boys Youth Program and Family Crisis Center. He is a strong participant in SALT Youth Group and 1st Assembly of God’s Worship Team.
Enrique Guyton has played soccer all four years of high school and coached for the Great Bend Recreation Commission. Enrique will be attending Barton Community College, majoring in Graphic Design.
Geovanni Morales worked as a library aid his senior year. He will be attending Barton Community College and will be majoring in Accounting.
Cinco De Mayo Barton County Scholarship
Cinco De Mayo was established to for graduating seniors, in Barton County, that have been involved in the Cinco de Mayo activities. The 2013 Cinco De Mayo Barton County Scholarship recipients are as follows:
Geovanni Morales is a Great Bend High School senior. He is a long time participant in the Spanish Club, El Sol Mexican Folk Dance, and the Freshman Mentor Program in high school. Morales will be attending Barton Community College, majoring in Accounting.
Alma Guerra, is a Great Bend High School senior. She regularly attends the local festival and helps family food vendors. Alma will be attending Barton Community College and is majoring in Pre Veterinarian Medicine.
