HAYS – Students from central Kansas were recognized at a recent Student Recognition Program in Great Bend for the scholarships they have been awarded from Fort Hays State University for the 2018-19 academic year.
The annual Great Bend SRP primarily serves students from Barton, Pawnee, Pratt, Rice, Russell and Stafford counties in addition to the cities of Bison and Otis in Rush County. Students from outside the primary area are also welcome.
Central Plains High School: Darian Hubbard, a 2018 Central Plains High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology. Hubbard, daughter of Casey and Melissa Hubbard, Claflin, plans to major in psychology; Kylie Lamatsch, a 2018 Central Plains High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Lamatsch, daughter of Greg and Sonya Lamatsch, Claflin, plans to major in nursing.
Ellinwood High School: Katelyn Reh, a 2018 Ellinwood High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. Reh, daughter of John and Kathy Reh, Ellinwood, plans to major in agriculture; Shelby Herrman, a 2016 Ellinwood High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, received a $1,500 Transfer Student Award. Herrman, daughter of Sheldon and Brenda Rathbun, Ellsworth, plans to major in art education.
Great Bend High School: Sheridan Beaumont, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Beaumont is the daughter of Steven and Tana Beaumont, Great Bend; Elijah Hutchinson, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award. Hutchinson is the son of Brian and Crystal Hutchinson, Great Bend; Grant Keller, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in business. Keller, son of Kevin and Lori Keller, Great Bend, plans to major in business; Lauren Miller, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry. Miller, daughter of Pat and Kim Miller, Great Bend, plans to major in chemistry; Christopher Quintero-Reyes, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $2,000 University Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in physics. Quintero-Reyes, son of Minerva Reyes, Great Bend, plans to major in physics; Paloma Sandoval, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $3,500 Presidential Award of Distinction and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Sandoval, daughter of Esequiel and Sasha Sandoval, Great Bend, plans to major in nursing; Parker Smith, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in biological sciences. Smith, daughter of Scott and Kristi Smith, Great Bend, plans to major in biology; Logan Welcher, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in applied business. Welcher, daughter of Jason Welcher and Maudie Hood, Great Bend, plans to major in marketing; Heaven Yager, a 2018 Great Bend High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in teacher education. Yager, daughter of Brian and Sheri Yager, Great Bend, plans to major in elementary education.
Hoisington High School: Christopher Ball, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in informatics and won the drawing for a $400 FHSU Student Recognition Program Scholarship. Ball, son of Bruce and Christina Ball, Great Bend, plans to major in informatics; Harley Cavender, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry. Cavender, daughter of Tammy Byerly, Hoisington, plans to major in chemistry; Callee Pfannenstiel, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. Pfannenstiel, daughter of Lisa Pfannenstiel, Great Bend, plans to major in agriculture; Krista Schneider, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Schneider, daughter of Chris and Michelle Schneider, Olmitz, plans to major in nursing; Jaci Schremmer, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health and won the drawing for a $600 FHSU University Bookstore Scholarship. Schremmer, daughter of Kurt and Sheila Schremmer, Hoisington, plans to major in medical diagnostic imaging; Jack Williams, a 2018 Hoisington High School graduate, received a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in history. Larned High School: Alyssa Clark, a 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health. Clark, daughter of Amanda Clark, Larned, plans to major in radiologic technology; Wesley Davis, a 2018 Larned High School graduate, received a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry. Otis-Bison High School: Blake Bahr, a 2018 Otis-Bison High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in business. Pawnee Heights High School: Allison Lupfer, a 2018 Pawnee Heights High School graduate, received a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in education. Lupfer, daughter of Robert and Faye Lupfer, Hanston, plans to major in education.
Russell High School: Chase Larson, a 2018 Russell High School graduate, received a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in business. Larson, son of Daron and Katrina Woelk, Russell, plans to major in business management.
St. John High School: Clayton Brummer, a 2018 St. John High School graduate, received a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. Brummer, son of Darin and Stephanie Brummer, St. John, plans to major in agriculture.
