Local students have been awarded scholarships from Fort Hays State University for the 2016 to 2017 academic year.
Bazine:
Nephtaly Gomez, a 2013 Western Plains High School graduate and an FHSU senior, accepted a $1,250 Reuben J. and Freda Wilhelm Scholarship. Gomez, daughter of Luis and Margarita Gomez, Bazine, is majoring in public accounting and Spanish.
Bison:
Trenton Welsh, a 2016 Otis-Bison High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Welsh, son of Ty and Pam Welsh, Bison, plans to major in management.
Bushton:
Julee McAtee, a 2014 Central Plains High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, accepted a $1,500 Transfer Student Award. McAtee, daughter of Jimmy and Joyce McAtee, Bushton, plans to major in animal science.
Chase:
Audree Aguilera, a 2014 Chase High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, accepted a $1,000 Transfer Student Award. Aguilera, daughter of Gilbert and Mary Aguilera, Chase, plans to major in accounting.
Hunter Ingham, a 2016 Central Plains High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. Ingham, son of David and Kim Ingham, Chase, plans to major in agriculture.
Claflin:
Lexie Broeker, a 2016 Central Plains High School graduate, accepted a $1,500 Hays City Scholar Award. Broeker, daughter of John and Lori Koester, Claflin, plans to major in marketing.
Trustin Kreft, a 2016 Central Plains High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Kreft, son of Terry and Amy Kreft, Claflin, plans to major in biology.
Taylor Rolfs, a 2016 Central Plains High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Rolfs, daughter of Trevor and Kim Rolfs, Claflin, plans to major in chemistry.
Michael Ryan, a 2016 Central Plains High School graduate, accepted a $1,000 Traditions Scholar Award. Ryan, son of James and Lisa Ryan, Claflin, plans to major in education.
Dorrance:
Patrick Kepka, a 2016 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate, accepted a $3,500 Presidential Award of Distinction and a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. He also won a drawing for a $400 FHSU Student Recognition Program Scholarship. Kepka, son of Michael and Linda Kepka, Dorrance, plans to major in agriculture.
Ellinwood:
Jared Oelke, a 2014 Ellinwood High School graduate and a Barton Community College transfer student, accepted a $1,500 Transfer Student Award. Oelke, son of Steve and Amy Oelke, Ellinwood, plans to major in animal science.
