The Department of Music at Sterling College will host Lloyd Larson as the guest composer for the Fifth Annual Composer Festival on Oct. 20. Larson has published over 1,000 compositions and arrangements, resulting in a robust career as a national clinician. The Highland Singers, Sterling Chorale and Concert Choir will join Larson for a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the United Presbyterian Church in Sterling. The concert is free and open to the public.
Larson began his career in 1982 as a composer and arranger for several publishing companies. His work includes choral anthems, numerous extended Christmas, Easter and non-seasonal works, keyboard collections, vocal solo and duet collections, instrumental works for solo and ensembles, orchestrations, and handbell settings. Many of his works are inspired by his work at his local church where he directs the choir and is involved in worship planning and leadership.
Larson earned his B.A. from Anderson University of Anderson, Indiana, and a degree in church music with an emphasis in composition from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary of Louisville, Kentucky. He has completed additional graduate work at Southern Baptist Seminary, The Ohio State University and Northern Baptist Seminary of Chicago, Illinois.
