Shawn Batten of St. John Graduates from Harding University

Shawn Batten of St. John was one of more than 750 graduates to receive a diploma at Harding University’s commencement exercises May 11.
Batten received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
Graduates included students from the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, the Honors College, College of Allied Health, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Sciences.
Dr. David Burks, chancellor of Harding University, was the speaker. Burks became president in May 1987 and retired to the roll of chancellor this June, concluding his 26th year as president. The ceremonies were held in the George S. Benson Auditorium. Burks presented the diplomas to all students.
Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,815 students and attracts more National Merit Scholars than any other private university in the state. Harding also maintains campuses in Australia, Chile, England, France, Greece, Italy and Zambia.
