Team members of Step It Up For A Cure pose with Walgreens employees in Hays, Ks. They will be at the Great Bend Walgreens from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 25

Step It Up For A Cure is an organization in Hays sponsored by Alexis Pfannenstiel and a Fort Hays State University Leadership 310 team. They are making it their mission to minimize the impact of diabetes in the community by contributing funding to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and educating the general public about signs and symptoms of diabetes.
They will be holding a 5k Glow Run/ 2.5k Glow Walk on Nov. 8, at the Lewis Field Stadium on the Fort Hays State University campus immediately after the home football game that evening. To kick off the event they are having a balloon release to honor anyone who has been affected by diabetes. They will also have informational booths set up. “America alone has 29.1 million people living with diabetes, and 8.1 million of them aren’t even diagnosed!” comments team member, Whitney Tilley. Community Sponsor, Alexis Pfannenstiel hopes for the event to generate a buzz around local communities, and have a generous turn out. This event can create connections between people who suffer from this disease, and a wonderful sustainable source of support for JDRF, if successful.
To register for this event by going online to their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stepitupforacure/timeline, or e-mailing them at stepitupforacure@gmail.com.
