Eight students from the University of Kansas have received Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships, prestigious awards for study abroad during the 2010-11 academic year.
Eight is the highest number of Gilman scholarships ever awarded to KU students in one semester.
The congressionally funded Gilman program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions to which they go. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education’s Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.
Local Gilman scholarship recipient is Rena Liz Detrixhe, junior in painting and drawing, daughter of Gene and Mary Detrixhe of Russell, spring semester at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea.
