Barton County Election Officer Bev Schmeidler wants to remind county residents that the filing deadline for the Nov. 7 general election is noon Thursday, June 1. On ballots will be city elected officials (mayors and council members), school boards, Barton Community College trustees, Ellinwood Hospital District trustees and Cottonwood Extension District Number 17.
All candidates must now file at the Barton County Clerk’s Office, Room 202, 1400 Main, Great Bend. The filing fee for all positions is $20.
The election is set for Nov. 7. But, if the number of candidates filing for office necessitates a primary election, that will be held Aug. 1.
Any registered voter residing in the districts listed below may file for election on or before the filing deadline.

Here are the positions that will be up for election:
• City of Great Bend – mayor and four council members, one from each ward
• City of Hoisington – mayor and four council members, one from each ward
• City of Ellinwood – mayor and two council member positions
• City of Claflin – mayor and two council member positions
• City of Albert – mayor and five council member positions
• City of Galatia – mayor and five council member positions
• City of Olmitz – mayor and two council member positions
• City of Pawnee Rock – mayor and two council member positions
• City of Susank – mayor and five council member positions
• Great Bend Unified School District 428 - four board member positions at-large
• Hoisington Unified School District 431 – five board member positions at-large, plus one unexpired term
• Ellinwood Unified School District 355 - four board member positions at-large
• Barton County Community College - three Board of Trustees positions at-large
• Ellinwood Hospital District - two Board of Trustees positions at-large
• Cottonwood Extension District No. 17 - two board member positions at-large
