The Ellinwood Recreation Commission will be adding hands on activity classes this summer taught by Bailey Baird. Classes will be for ages Kindergarten to 6th grade.
“It’s a Zoo out there!” will June 4th. Participants will learn about animals and making crafts in class on Monday the 4th. Then on Friday the 8th the class will take a field trip to Britt Spaugh Zoo in Great Bend, leaving Ellinwood at 8:45 a.m. and returning at 11:15 a.m. There will be a presentation and zoo tour and a talk about the diets of various animals. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and good walking shoes. No flip-flops. Class will take place on June 4th from 8:45-9:45 a.m. for 3rd-6th graders and 10-11 a.m. for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Cost will be $20 per child with only 15 allowed per age group.
“Hands on Science Adventure!” will be June 11th. Participants will get to try several different science experiments and explore how fun science can be. Make sure to wear clothes that can get stained. Class will take place from 8:45-10 a.m. on June 11th for 3rd-6th graders and 10:15-11:15 a.m. for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Cost will be $10 per child with only 15 allowed per age group.
“Kansas Wetlands Trip: Off to Learn about Nature!” will be June 18th. A fun morning of activities awaits at the Wetlands Center for Kindergarten-6th graders. The class will complete activities, take a tour, have a snack, and learn about nature in our area. Participants will leave Ellinwood at 8:45 a.m. from the grade school gym and return around 11:15 a.m. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and good walking shoes. No flip flops. Cost will be $20 per kid and only 30 spots are available for the trip.
“Proud to be an American!” will be June 25th. Participants will be making a festive 4th of July craft to display for the 4th of July. Class will take place from 8:45-10 a.m. for 3rd-6th graders and 10:15-11:15 a.m. for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Cost will be $10 per kid and only 15 are allowed per age group.
“Eagle Pride Cheer and Dance Clinic!” Class will take place from 8:45-10 a.m., July 16th through the 19th for 3rd-6th graders and 10:15-11:15 a.m. for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Participants will learn a fun dance, cheers and chants. They will show off their fun routine and cheers at the After Harvest Festival BBQ. Cost will be $10 per kid and only 15 are allowed per age group.
“Kids in the Kitchen!” Class will take from 8:45-10 a.m. place July 24th through the 26th for 3rd-6th graders and 10:15-11:15 a.m. for Kindergarten-2nd graders. Participants will make fun recipes, learn about nutrition and kitchen safety. Each day they will have samples to take home to share along with recipe cards. Cost will be $20 per kid and only 15 are allowed per age group.
