Fatal crash in Rush County
Minor injuries reported in Russell County

A LaCrosse woman suffered fatal injuries on Friday morning after the car she was driving spun out of control and collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee, half a mile south of La Crosse on U.S. 183 in Rush County. Two Great Bend residents were also injured.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports that Terra Dawn Davis, 44, was driving a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Impala at 7:35 a.m. After she lost control of the car, it spun and was struck by the Jeep on the rear passenger-side corner. KHP reports Davis was not wearing a seat belt. She was initially taken to Rush County Memorial Hospital. 

Occupants in the Jeep sustained what were believed to be minor injuries. The driver was Taylor Page Calcara, 32, of Great Bend. The passenger, Mark Douglas Calcara, 70, was taken to the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. They were both wearing seat belts.

Russell County crash

KHP also responded to a two-vehicle crash with suspected minor injuries on Interstate 70 in Russell County at 9:30 a.m. A 1996 Buick Park Avenue driven by Marlyn F. Kaufman, 83, of Russell, was traveling west on I-70, about 0.8 miles west of the Bunker Hill Exit when she lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the center median and struck a 2019 Toyota van head-on. The van was driven by Antonia L. Fahardo, 44, of Bedford, Texas and carried a passenger, Edith Jurdo-Ochoa, 42, from La Vergne, Texas.

All three people were wearing seat belts and sustained injuries. Fahardo and Jurdo-Ochoa were taken to Russell Regional Hospital.
