October Fire Prevention Week 2018 will start on Monday and Great Bend firefighters are anxiously looking forward to seeing the students. This year’s theme is “Look, Listen, Learn. Be aware.”
Fires can happen anywhere. During fire prevention week firefighters will visit teachers and present a fire prevention program. Starting the week of Oct. 8, firefighters will bring fire trucks and equipment to each kindergarten and pre-school classroom, present a 30-minute special program, and give each kindergartner a red fire hat just for them. Next, coloring books and handout materials will be given out to kindergartners through 3rd grade.
Also, starting the week of Oct. 8, the children will be bused by USD 428 to the Great Bend Recreation Center where firefighters will present the fire safety skit to all students in grades K through 6.
Each student will then receive a home escape plan; these can be filled out and practiced with their families. All students will receive coupons from Wendy’s for a free Junior Frosty. Mpire will provide a gift certificate to all 6th graders, good for a smoke detector for their home.
