A seminar offered by Foundry Methodist Church in Great Bend provides help for people who are grieving during the holiday season.
The GriefShare “Surviving the Holidays” seminar will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at the church, located at 5401 Broadway Ave.
When grieving the death of a family member or friend, people may dread the holiday season. Thoughts of social gatherings, family traditions and obligations leave them anxious and overwhelmed. The sadness can seem unbearable. They may wish you could skip the next several weeks and go straight to the routine of the new year – but they can’t. “Surviving the Holidays” offers practical, actionable strategies for making it through the holiday season, sponsors said.
Participants will view a video featuring advice from people in grief who have faced the holidays after their loss. They’ll hear insights from respected Christian counselors, pastors and psychologists. They will also receive a “Holiday Survival Guide” with over 30 encouraging readings, helpful charts and tips to manage the holiday season during this difficult time.
At GriefShare “Surviving the Holidays,” participants will meet with other grieving people who have an understanding of what they are going through and can offer comfort and support. Everyone is accepted as they are, and no one will be judged or forced to share.
The holiday season won’t be easy; emotions may ambush grieving individuals and suck them under at times, sponsors said. But they can choose to walk through this season in a way that honors the loved one and puts the survivor on the path of health and healing.
