Great Bend High School musicians achieved superior ratings at the State Festival last Saturday at Emporia High School. Soloist who received “I”s were: Andrew Curtright, euphonium; Anna Frizell, clarinet; Eric Vazquez, bass clarinet; Kayn Milholland, tuba; Allison Regehr, french horn; and Dorian Lueth, viola. Receiving “II”s on their solos were: Taylor Dougherty and Kaitlin Adams, clarinet. The Brass Sextet received a I. Members are: Ben Diel, Aaron Schultz, trumpet; Allison Regehr, French horn; Aubrey Maneth, trombone; Michelle Rooney, euphonium; and Kayn Milholland, tuba. In March the band had their large ensemble contest with the Varsity Band awarded a “I” rating and the Junior Varsity Band receiving a II+”. Craig Allison, Lyons, was the adjudicator/clinician. Marlene Regehr was the accompanist for the band soloists for the regional and state contests.
Instrumental and vocal students will present the annual Variety Show at 7:30 p.m. May 8 and 9, and at 2 p.m. on May 10, in the GBHS auditorium. The Spring Band Concert will be 7 p.m. on May 11, in the GBHS gym. The band concert is free and the public is invited to attend.
