GBHS Debate team wins 10 medals and a trophy at first tournament

The Great Bend High School Debate Squad competed at their first tournament of the season at Valley Center’s Debate tournament on Sept.the 28th. Six teams competed in three divisions. In the novice division, Ashtin Heath and Aaron Miller placed 6th and Trae Black and Malia Clark placed 2nd. Black expressed, “It was so much fun for my first time! I can’t believe how well we did for our first tournament! I know I wouldn’t be as good as I am without my Debate Family! They’re amazing!” In the JV division Kane Schumacher and Jordan Stoulil placed 6th. In the Varsity division, Marissa Hoisington and Carter Sheffield placed 5th, and Michael Gieck and Kameko Schultz placed 3rd. The Debate Squad placed 3rd in Sweepstakes with 14 wins. Miller stated, “It was a great learning experience! It made me know I want to stick with it. I owe it all to Mr. and Mrs. Watson and my Debate Family!” The Novice team, Kris Gieck and Jesus Sandoval also competed, just missed winning medals and contributed to the team’s sweepstakes winning.  
The Great Bend High School Debate Squad plans on competing at Lyons and Sterling next weekend.
