GBHS Speech Team places nine events again

The Great Bend High School Forensics Team competed at the Jetmore Invitational Tournament on Saturday, April 13th. The team had nine individual placings like they did at the last tournament they competed in earlier in the week, on Monday, April 8th. The team also qualified three new events to the State Championship tournament giving them a total of 16 events which is a full entry. Every team member broke into finals in at least one event, which consisted of Nathaniel Cheney, Kenna Dirks, Michael Gieck, Mallorie McNett, Jesus Sandoval, Kameko Schultz, and Kane Schumacher. Cheney and Schumacher broke into finals in duet acting placing 6th overall. Schultz and Gieck also broke into finals in duet placing 1st. Dirks broke into finals in Original Oration placing 5th. Sandoval also competed in oration placing 3rd and placing 5th in his second event of Poetry. Gieck went to finals in two more events qualifying to state in Impromptu by placing 2nd and in Poetry by placing 3rd. McNett competed in Prose placing 5th overall. Schultz also competed in Humorous Interpretation placing 6th. Gieck said “Competing at this tournament was fun. Not only did we do well we had a good time.” The team is now preparing for the District National Qualifying NFL tournament that will be on April 19th and 20th at Bethel College in Newton and the State Championship tournament, which will be held at Emporia High School on Saturday, May 4th.
