HAYS — Seventeen Great Bend High School scholars participated in the annual Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, November 9. Around 600 participants and 48 schools competed at this event.
In Using Number Sense, the 9th-grade team of Madelyn Harrington, Madelynne Siefkes and Aiden Stacey placed second and the 11th-grade team of Ian Premer, Thomas Armatys and Carson Umphres also placed 2nd.
In Informal Geometry - Measurement event, the 9th-grade team of Madelyn Harrington, Madelynne Siefkes and Aiden Stacey placed first and the 12th-grade team of Parker Dicks, Kaiden Deines, and Samantha Mayers placed 8th. In the individual portion of that event, sophomore Ian Premer placed first.
In the Trigonometry event, Ian Premer placed 9th, senior Parker Dicks placed 6th and the 12th-grade team of Apollos Johnson, Samantha Mayers, and Kaden Deines placed 5th.
In Algebraic Manipulations, the 11th-grade team of Thomas Armatys, Reese King, and Anderson Luttrell placed 8th. Individually, freshman Madelyn Harrington placed 7th, sophomore Ian Premer placed 7th and junior Carson Umphres placed 4th.
In Applications of Algebra, the 9th-grade team of Madelyn Harrington, Madelynne Siefkes and Aiden Stacey placed 3rd and the 10th-grade team of Aaron Ramirez, Yarlene Granados and Ian Premer placed 2nd. Individually, junior Carson Umphres placed 5th.
In Calculations with Calculators, the 12th grade team of Apollos Johnson, Parker Dicks, and Kaiden Deines placed 2nd and the junior team of Thomas Armatys, Jacklyn Garcia, and Reese King placed 8th. In the individual portion, sophomore Ian Premer placed 6th and junior Carson Umphres placed 5th.
Also participating were Paige Thexton and Makenzie Premer. As a school, Great Bend High School placed 5th in the 5A-6A category.
