Great Bend may add girls wrestling at the middle school to its list of sports in the 2020-2021 year. A proposal is on the agenda for the next USD 428 Board of Education meeting, set for 5 p.m. Monday, April 13. The meeting will be held through video conference and a recording of the meeting will be posted at greatbendschools.net as soon as possible.

If the proposal to add a new sport is approved, the middle school Western Athletic Conference will implement the addition of girls wrestling at GBMS. The sport will coincide with the middle school boys basketball season.

Other items on the agenda include recognition of the district’s two Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees, Jessica Geist, teacher of grade six at Lincoln Elementary, and Wendy Popp, teacher of math at Great Bend High School; approval of the bid for a summer project to replace multiple sections of carpet/flooring at GBHS; approval of membership dues; and the first reading of 2020-2021 teacher handbooks, student handbooks, and athletic and activity handbooks.
