The Great Bend Public Library’s 2022 Summer Reading Program starts Friday, June 3, with a mini luau at 2 p.m. on the front lawn, 1409 Williams St.
The kickoff celebration features a Teen Tiki Bar with mocktails and games, said Hannah Grippin, outreach manager at the library. “Then, starting at 5 p.m., Brad Shores of Tropic Shores Steel Drums will be here to bring an ‘island atmosphere’ to our celebration,” Grippin said. “While you’re enjoying the sound of the islands, don’t forget to grab your free snow cone from Mike and Ice between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. After you’ve finished that delicious frozen treat, enjoy some lawn games with the whole family.
“Patrons of all ages can register for our Summer Reading Program as well during our kickoff. As the evening winds down, adults can join us in the library to cool off as we embark on a harrowing nautical adventure for the June Adults Night Out Movie at 7 p.m.”
All ages can register for the Summer Reading Program, where reading can earn changes in drawings for prizes. Children can earn a ticket to the End of Summer Bash at the Wetlands Waterpark by turning in their reading logs.
The “Oceans of Possibilities” will continue all month, with special programs including a ventriloquist show and Mad Science.
