Take a one-hour trip to Spain and Portugal
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host “Take a Trip to Spain and Portugal” from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. This free Stop ‘N Learn program will also be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Roger and Kay Hallenbeck will talk about food, cultures, interesting facts and things they saw on their trip.
Wrestling facilities on BCC agenda
“Wrestling Facilities” are on the agenda for the Barton Community College Board of Trustees study session, set for 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. The college is reportedly considering adding a wrestling program.
Other items on the agenda are the financial statement; the board’s fall retreat; “Winged Aspirations,” presented by Darnell Holopirek, executive director of Institutional Advancement; trustee terms that are expiring/up for election; and the trustee recruitment brochure.
There will also be an update on work at Camp Aldrich.
Legion Auxiliary plans benefit Soup Supper
American Legion Auxiliary will hold a benefit Soup Supper from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, at American Legion Argonne Post 180, 1011 Kansas Ave. Members and guests are welcome.
Admission to the all you can eat Soup Supper is $6. They will be serving chili, ham and beans, vegetable beef, creamed ham, bean, and noodle soups, along with corn bread, tea or coffee and dessert made by the American Legion Auxiliary members.
Proceeds benefit American Legion Veteran programs including Military Moms and Fort Dodge Soldiers Home.
Senior Center offers flu shot clinic
The Barton County Health Department will administer Flu Shots from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14th, at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Seniors that plan on getting their flu shot need to bring their Medicare card with them. Register for ‘Defensive Driving’
The “Defensive Driving Course” will be offered from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. The class is sponsored by the Great Bend Recreation Commission, the Commission on Aging and Barton County Farm Bureau. Kansas Highway Patrolman Steve Billinger will be the instructor.
Most insurance companies will lower premiums for participants that receive certificates at the end of the class.
