Great Bend looking for housing developers in Amber Meadows

The City of Great Bend has three open lots in the newer Amber Meadows subdivision and City Administrator Brandon Anderson wants to know if anyone in the public is interested in building on them.

Those lots were locked up in a land-purchase agreement in the first phase of the Amber Meadows Housing Development but the buyer became non-compliant with terms, Anderson explained at Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting. When confronted with the breach, the party to the agreement chose to deed the properties back to the City.

The City of Great Bend would now like to gauge the interest of other developers for the lots. Anderson asked the council to approve publicizing Requests For Proposals (RFPs). “We will pitch these out to the public,” Anderson said. “We want to open that opportunity to the public and see what kind of interest is out there.”

Two to four council members will be appointed to serve on an evaluation and negotiation committee for the proposals once reviewed.

Proposals will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19.

According to the land-purchase agreement referenced in the meeting, all houses must be single-family homes, and no manufactured homes are permitted. Floor plans shall be approved by the City Building Official and houses shall be sold to the public by the buyer at a minimum price of $150,000 for a 1,200-square-foot house and a maximum price of $350,000 for an 1,800-square-foot house.
