A Great Bend man was busted in Barton County Monday for the weekend theft of jewelry and guns in Rush County, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

Alex Roth, 26, remains in custody in the Rush County Jail. He is being held in lieu of a $40,000 bond.

According to Bellendir, authorities in Rush County received a report of a burglary and theft involving several firearms on Sunday. Information was shared with various law enforcement agencies in central Kansas.

Based on the vehicle descriptions shared by Rush County, Barton County Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to develop suspect information, Bellendir said.

Early Monday afternoon, BCSO detectives stopped a suspicious vehicle west of Great Bend on SW 20 Road. After contacting the driver of the vehicle, sheriff’s officers discovered one of the stolen firearms.

Roth was apprehended at the scene. He was arrested on the Rush County burglary and theft charges and released to Rush County.

According to reports, another of the suspect vehicles was located in the city of Great Bend. It was placed under surveillance, but a search warrant executed later was not fruitful, Bellendir said.

Another five firearms were located in southern Russell County from the same burglary, the sheriff said.
