Hoisington City 4-25-23
Hoisington City Council members discuss vacancies on the council at Monday’s meeting.

Great Bend Municipal Band Director Grant Mathews said their next concert will feature “a European excursion through Belgium, England, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Moscow, Israel, Bohemia (Czech Republic), and even a return to the dark ages.” The concert starts at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at the band shell on the south side of the Barton County Courthouse.

Musical pieces planned for the free concert include “March of the Belgian Paratroopers,” “Three Ayres from Gloucester,” “Irish Tunes from County Derry,” “Danza Espanola,” “The Match of Hope,” “Moscow, 1941,” and “Danse Bohemien.” Israeli folk songs will be featured in “Songs of a New Nation."

“Darklands March (March Through the Dark Forest) by Randall Standridge is the final number.

Looking ahead, the program at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, will be the Great Bend Municipal Band’s annual Patriotic Concert, “with all your favorites to celebrate our American fervor and resolve, and put us in the mood for July 4th,” Mathews said.
