Starting today, the Barton County Health Department will begin offering lower prices on a wide assortment of laboratory services, Health Director Shelly Schneider said.
The tests will be available every day during the department’s regular business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost varies for service to service and the prices range from $5 to $27.
Tests include:
• Complete Blood Count (CBC) – checks for anemina, infection, or disease.
• Comprehensive Metabolic Profile (fasting required) – a measure of electrolytes, glucose, kidney and liver enzymes.
• Glucose (fasting required) – checks the sugar in the blood.
• Hemoglobin A1C – screening for diabetes and aids in diabetes management (long-term glucose levels).
• Hepatic Functions Panel (fasting required) – checks how the Liver is working.
• Hepatitis C Virus Antibody – checks to see if you have been exposed to Hepatitis C.
• Hepatitis B Surface Antibody, Quantitative – used to see if you have any immunity to hepatitis B or immunity from the vaccine.
• HIV 1/2 Antigen/Antibody – indicates that you have exposure to HIV.
• Lipid Panel (fasting required) – a reliable measure of cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL.
• Measles Antibody (IgG) – indicator if you have ever been exposed to the measles or immunity from the vaccine.
• Mumps Virus Antibody (IgG) – indicator if you have ever been exposed to the mumps or immunity from the vaccine.
• Rubella Immune Status – indicator if you have ever been exposed to the rubella or immunity from the vaccine.
• TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) – checks medication compliance and also indicates thyroid issues.
• T3 Total – measures available thyroid hormone binding sites (usually doctors order this).
• T4, Free (FTA) – checks the circulating autoantibodies (usually doctors order this).
• PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) – measures PSA to aid in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
• Varicella-Zoster Virus Antibody (IgG) – indicator if you have every been exposed to the chicken pox or immunity from the vaccine.
• Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy, Total Immunoassay – measures the amount of vitamin D your body is absorbing (medication maintenance, also).
