LYONS — A 2002 Ford Explorer carrying six men from Great Bend overturned Tuesday on U.S. 56, half a mile east of Lyons, the Kansas Highway Patrol reports. The accident occurred at 2:55 p.m. as the westbound vehicle driven by Merced Olivas-Portillo, 59, dropped off the edge of the roadway onto the shoulder. The driver over-corrected and the Explorer slid sideways onto a paved driveway, overturned one time and came to rest on its top facing south.
Olivas-Portillo and passengers Manuel Torres, 47, and Trejo Barron-Martin, 62, were taken to Lyons Hospital. The other passengers, Leonel Lopez-Sanudel, 42; Hector Garcia, 45; and Alfredo Alcala-Zamago, 58, were not injured.
All of the men were wearing seat belts except Torres and Alcala-Zamago.
The vehicle was removed by Lyons Wrecker.
