Hoisington EMS Barn holds open house

Kids could sit behind the steering wheel of a fire truck and explore the back of an ambulance on Thursday at the Hoisington EMS Barn.
There were hands-on tours of ambulances, fire trucks and police cars, and free hot dogs and hamburgers. Other agencies that are available in emergencies were represented, including the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Hazardous Materials Regulation (HMR) and the Major Emergency Response Group (MERG), from Hutchinson. Hoisington’s police and fire departments were also there.
This was the third year for Hoisington’s volunteer Emergency Medical Service to hold an open house, EMS Service Director Scott Fleming said.
“This allows the kids and some of the adults to know their responders,” Fleming said. “That way, if they need them they may get to see a familiar face.”
Hoisington’s fire department and its EMS department are staffed by volunteers. Fleming said they all devote a lot of time in this community service.
