Rosewood Furniture Gallery became a showplace of warm holiday cheer for the sixth straight year in an effort to help the Great Bend Beautification Committee raise funds to improve the community. The Holiday Tables Spectacular fundraiser was held Nov. 10 and 11 at the Gallery, located at 1607 Main, Great Bend. The annual event was a week later than usual and it was held for two days, rather than the customary single day. More than 100 people attended this year’s Holiday Tables Spectacular.
“We thought the event went well,” said Judy Reed, Beatification cochair of Holiday Tables. “We tried something different this year and we had a good turnout, even during a busy weekend around the area.”
This year’s event marked the eighth year that the Beautification Committee has held Holiday Tables Spectacular. Unlike years past when visitors paid an entry fee, this year’s event was free, but the committee did accept donations from those who attended. Eleven tables were decorated by area businesses and individuals and the themes ranged from elegant, traditional, classic and cultural to contemporary.
Serving as cochair of Holiday Tables this year, local sculpting artist Loretta Miller demonstrated her Santa-carving skills. For the second year in a row, she donated one of her hand-crafted creations to help the Beatification’s fund-raising effort. Entries for a chance to win the 24-inch Santa standing in a stocking are still being accepted. The drawing will take place Dec. 12 at the Crest Theater during Eagle Radio’s “$12,000 Holiday Shopping Spree.” People can enter the Santa drawing at The Gallery (Miller’s store), and at the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, both located in downtown Great Bend. The Beautification Committee requests a $5 donation per entry.
Joining Reed and Miller in hosting Holiday Tables this year were fellow Beatification Committee members Linda Dougherty, Deon Lupton, Mary Kummer and June Hillman.
This year’s table entries and presenters were: Grandma’s Dishes - Linda McCaffery; Holiday - Dana Allison; Bridge Club Friends - McCaffery and Allison; Winter Song -  Debbie Jones; Ode to Spring - Kim Vink; Festa Santa – Cornerstone Interiors; Golden Christmas – Lisa Hayes; The Dollies Christmas Party (Children’s Party) – Hayes; Christmas Dinner – Marilyn and Bob Loss; Christmas at the Corral – Wendy Litzenberger; Princess for a Day – Kat King and Kathy Straub.
“They look forward to participating in this event every year,” Reed said about the table decorators. “Many of them have already told me that they are planning to decorate again next year.”
