PAWNEE ROCK — The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving two vehicles occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon, May 20, in Pawnee county at US 56 about 1 mile west of Pawnee Rock.
According to the accident report, a 2008 Chevy Impala driven by Genaro Lopez-Zavalva, 52, of Garden city was West bound on US 56 when it hydroplaned and came into the East bound lane. John Thomas Lyman II, 33, of Newton, driving a 2015 Ford F250 Super Duty truck and pulling a 2012 Cougar Camper, tried to avoid Lopez-Zavalva and side swiped the Impala on the right side. Lopez-Zavalva spun out of control and into the South ditch. Lyman continued East into the North ditch.
Lopez-Zavalva and two passengers, Margarita Lopez, 52, and Anthony Lopez, 13, also of Garden City, were trapped inside the vehicle, and mutual aid was called. All three were taken to Wesley Hospital with suspected serious injuries. All were wearing safety restraints.
Lyman sustained no apparent injuries. His vehicle was removed by Marmie Motors.
