An Ellinwood woman was taken to the Great Bend hospital with suspected serious injury of Thursday, July 4, after the Chevrolet Silverado she was driving rear-ended a semitrailer on U.S.56, 4 miles east of Great Bend.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 6:47 p.m. Franchesca Eileen Holcomb, 22, was driving the eastbound 1999 truck that ran into a 2000 Peterbilt pulling a trailer. The semi driver, Lawrence Eugene Coats, 68, of Chase, had no apparent injury. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Holcomb was transported to The University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus.
