Veterans and their spouses will be the first admitted to a career and networking job fair at the end of the month in Great Bend, but everyone will have a chance to meet with prospective employers.
Hosted by KansasWorks, the job fair will be held Aug. 30 at the Best Western Angus Inn courtyard area, 2920 10th St. It will be open to military veterans from 4-5:30 p.m. and then to the general public from 5:30-7 p.m. This event is supported by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) grant. All military veterans and their spouses are invited to attend.
The job fair will provide veterans and the general public an opportunity to meet with employers who are looking to hire a variety of full and part-time positions. Attendees can also receive resume writing and job search assistance from staff in the KansasWorks mobile center.
Employers interested in attending may contact the Great Bend KansasWorks office and/or Edward Scott, LVER, at (620) 793-5445 or e-mail escott@kansasworks.com.
Representatives from Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs will be on hand to provide information and resources to veterans and their families.
KansasWorks offers employment and training services to eligible veterans through its Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVERSs) and Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialists (DVOPs). These employment specialists have large reservoirs of information about jobs and education/training opportunities, veterans’ rights and benefits, laws affecting veterans, employment trends and all services available through the state’s workforce centers.
The estimated number of businesses that employ members of the Guard and Reserve is 125,000. ESGR works through a nationwide network of volunteers and a small, full-time support staff to inform and educate hundreds of thousands Reserve Component members and their employers regarding rights and responsibilities, best practices and to develop and maintain relationships with employers.
