Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation announces the 2020 scholarship recipients. The organization offers two five-year-renewable scholarships for any young person who has been assisted by Kans for Kids.

The Becky Nicholson/Kans for Kids Scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of Becky Nicholson, daughter of Bill and Pattie Nicholson and the late Karen Nicholson. The Jan Aylward Memorial Scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Jan Aylward, longtime friend and supporter of Kans for Kids.

Tanner Blackwell, Hoisington, senior at Kansas University in the School of Pharmacy, has received both the Becky Nicholson and Jan Aylward scholarships for the fourth consecutive year. He is the son of Jim and Anita Blackwell, Hoisington. Tanner was diagnosed with AML (leukemia) when he was 10 years old. After relapsing, he received a bone marrow transplant and today is cancer free.

Kira Cook, Great Bend, a senior at Fort Hays State University majoring in Radiologic Technology, has also received the Becky Nicholson and the Jan Aylward scholarships for the fourth consecutive year. She is the daughter of Darrin and Marlene Cook of Great Bend. A member of the Kans for Kids family since 2001, Kira was diagnosed with a Wilm’s tumor at the age of 2 1/2 years.

Anna Fisher, Ellinwood is a junior at Kansas University majoring in education. Diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma in 2018, she recently relapsed but is doing well and will be attending school this fall. She is the daughter of Rob and Jodie Fisher. Anna, too, will receive both the Becky Nicholson and the Jan Aylward scholarships for the third consecutive year.
