ST. JOHN — Kenneth N. Parten, 83, passed away Dec. 5, 2016, at Stafford County Hospital in Stafford. Born on Feb. 1, 1933, at Prather Hill, he was the son of Carl and Ruth (Mann) Parten. On Sept. 14, 1952, he married Jan (Huffman) at St. John. He was owner-operator of Parten Oil and Gas Co. He was a former councilman and mayor for the City of St. John.
Mr. Parten was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the Lions Club where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient and American Petroleum Inc-board member.
Survivors include his wife Jan Parten; a daughter, Kim Sallee (Jim), of West Point, Miss.; a brother, Wayne Parten of Austin, Texas; a sister, Norma Lee Bright of St. John; two grandchildren, Mandy McMurdo (Brian), of Kimberling City, Mo., and Tyson Parten (Kristy), of Lampe, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Faith McMurdo, and Delaney and Taryn Parten; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Bill Parten; and a brother, Marvin Parten.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Minnis Chapel in St. John with Jim Sallee and Ray Davidson presiding. Military graveside will follow at the Fairview Park Cemetery in St. John. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Fairview Park Cemetery or the Southern Baptist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
