The Kansas Wetlands Education Center will offer STEM-themed activities and experiments from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. Throughout the afternoon, there will be free activities that incorporate science, technology, engineer and math skills that are geared toward children 3-12 years old.

Make a paper circuit New Year’s card light up, explore winter with virtual reality goggles, engineer a peppermint tower, learn the difference between the blood of endothermic and ectothermic animals, and more, said Mandy Kern, program specialist.

Friday is also a great time to check out the new interactive exhibits at FHSU’s Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Kern said. “Thanks to a generous donation from the Dorothy M. Morrison Foundation, KWEC has a one-of-a-kind wetlands floor projection, augmented sandbox watershed simulator, a children’s education center with turtle cushions, and displays featuring watershed plants, macroinvertebrate samples, and a build-a-bird station.”

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center is located at 592 NE K-156, Great Bend. Admission is free.
