Larned Music Club hosting piano recital

Pianist Andrew Wilson, a Kansas City, Mo., native, will be performing at the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce Jordaan Room at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3. Local sponsor for the event is the Larned Music Club.

LARNED — Assisted by Larned Music Club, Aine Wendler, DMA, will present a piano recital by Andy Wilson at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce Jordaan Room, 502 Broadway in Larned. 

The repertoire lists Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Prokofiev, a performance not to be missed, Wendler said. This is a free event, although a freewill donation is welcomed. Refreshments will be served.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Mo., Andrew “Andy” J. Wilson started playing the piano at the age of 14 under Dr. Wendler. He began competing soon after beginning lessons and decided to pursue music in his collegiate studies. He attended Missouri Western State University and studied with Dr. Nathanael May. In 2020, he transferred to Kansas State University to study under Dr. Sławomir Dobrzański where he obtained his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance degree in May 2023. 

Under Dr. Dobrzański’s instruction, Wilson performed at ARTE Music School in Warsaw, Poland. Furthermore, he obtained first prize at several competitions including the Kansas State University Symphony Orchestra Concerto/Aria Competition, Tabor College Bach Festival and Competition Young Artist Division, and the Kansas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Auditions.

Wilson will be attending New York University this fall and will study under Dr. Manuel Laufer to pursue his Master of Music in Piano Performance with an Advanced Certificate in Performance and Pedagogy. Wilson will be listed as adjunct faculty at NYU Steinhardt and will be teaching undergraduate piano lessons.

Outside of piano, Wilson’s passions include golfing, cooking and spending time with his pets.
