Local legion Post hosts district convention Saturday

American Legion Great Bend Post 180 hosted the District 7 Convention Saturday. Marri Krupco, commander of the American Legion Department of Kansas, was on hand to provide updates on the new department website.

“With your help and communication, we’re going to continue to build and improve on our new website,” Krupco told attendees at Saturday’s convention. “This new website will help improve conveying information within the organization.” 

Krupco also discussed the department’s transfer program. “This will be a big help throughout the state by transferring memberships from post headquarters to local posts,” she said. 

Krupco also read a letter from Rick Miller of Olathe who is a candidate for the department master of arms for 2021-22. Miller is currently on deployment with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Other speakers at the convention included Martin Miller, manager of the Great Bend Municipal Airport. Miller discussed the triennial Great Bend Airfest scheduled for Sept. 17-19.

Beginning in March and continuing each weekend throughout April, districts will meet in convention for the purpose of conducting its business and electing officers for the 2021-22 membership year which begins in July.

About district conventions
Each district is required to elect: Representatives to the Department Convention’s Constitution and Bylaws, Resolutions, Credentials and Rules committees; and the district’s delegates and alternates to the National Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., Aug. 27 through Sept. 2. The state department convention is scheduled for May 14-16 in Topeka.
