LARNED — Eight members attended the Jordaan Library’s book club Tuesday. The new Evanovich book “Smokin’ Seventeen” was discussed and there were several suggestions for other authors who write humorous mystery series. The next meeting will be Aug. 16.
Jordaan Memorial Library is adding new books to the children’s department each week. There are still prizes for reading books. The summer reading program continues until school starts. When it’s too hot to be outside, there’s nothing like a good book or several to pass the time. New books are being added to the adult collection.
NEW BOOKS
Darling Dahlia’s
The ladies of the Darling, Alabama Garden Club are busy tracking down rumors about Miss Harmer’s mysterious guests. Miss Harmer’s garden is known for “Naked Ladies,” a sweet-smelling lily and there’s speculation that her nieces are actually the Naughty and Nice Sisters from the Ziegfield Frolics. The sisters are known for dancing nearly naked. Then there’s the stranger from Chicago asking about the women.
Why is Miss Lake never seen without a veil?
Why did Nona change her hair color?
The Club Ladies will unearth the truth in “The Darling Dahlia’s and The Naked Ladies,” by Susan Wittig Albert.
The Silent Girl
It began with a female’s severed hand in a dark alley. On the roof of a tenement above is the body of a red-haired woman dressed in black. Two strands of silver hair, not human, are Rizzoli’s only clues.
But it’s enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make a startling discovery that leads to a horrifying murder-suicide in Chinatown 19 years ago. Rizzoli and Isles must outwit and unseen enemy in “The Silent Girl,” by Tess Gerritsen.
Just Like Heaven
Meet the Smythe-Smiths in “Just Like Heaven,” the first book of Julia Quinn’s new series. The Smyuthe-Smiths are famous for their yearly musicales where they butcher Mozart beyond recognition.
Iris is actually quite good on the cello but no one can hear her because her sisters are horrible violinists. Now Sarah, who plays the pianoforte, has sworn she will never perform, in public again. Join the fun in Quinn’s latest book.
