Quilting Bees meet

LARNED —  Members of the guild met Aug. 16 in the fellowship hall of the Presbyterian Church.  Several members turned in their bags and purses for the Cancer Awareness event in October.  Several more prayer quilts have been made, blessed, tied with prayers and distributed.
Announcements included the Sept. 6 meeting will include the Halloween Fat Quarter Drawing and the Cancer Awareness Dinner and Auction Oct. 24 at the First Presbyterian Church. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. for a $10 donation.
Pat Knoechel of Fons and Porter will demonstrate “Radiant Star” from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend. She will also bring quilts and patterns for Apple Cake, A Better Star for all Seasons, Fabric Frenzy, Diamond Studded Courthouse, and Wish Upon a Star.  Patterns, books, and rulers will be available for sale and the event is being sponsored by the Great Bend Threadbenders Quilt Guild.
Ann Hicks demonstrated the June, July, and August sampler quilt blocks from Pioneer Quilts. Show and Tell participants featured Melvina Prescott, who displayed a table runner made with the four fat quarters that she drew for the June challenge “See What You Can Do”; Susan Gray, who showed bags made from dog food and cat food bags; Ann Hicks, who exhibited an African quilt for a nephew; Alice Clapsaddle, who showed a Nativity wall hanging; Sandra Dunavan, who exhibited a car quilt for her grandson; and Coleen Wolf, who showed a prayer quilt made with blocks from guild.

Commission to meet

LARNED — The Pawnee County commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Pawnee County Courthouse.
9:30 a.m. — Lane Massey, Larned city manager, will meet Pawnee County department directors and employees.
10:30 a.m. — Richard VonFeldt, VonFeldt, Bauer & VonFeldt, 2010 audit.
11 a.m. — Denise Wood, Community Corrections/Juvenile Justice Authority, review final audit.
1:30 p.m. — Public hearing, proposed 2012 Pawnee County budget.
1:45 p.m. — Rod Wheaton, Southwest supervisor, DOC and Larned State Hospital contract renewal.
