Chamber coffee at Chamber

LARNED — Thursday’s Larned Chamber of Commerce Coffee Hour will be sponsored by the Larned Area Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber Building, 502 Broadway, at 9:30 a.m. Join them for coffee and doughnuts and meet the new Chamber board of director members.

Veterans’ rep to visit Thursday

LARNED — Vincent Scott Dorsey, Veterans’ Service Representative of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs, Fort Dodge, will be in Larned at the Veterans of Foreign War Building from 10 a.m. to noon, and at the Larned State Hospital in the Reimbursement Office from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He will assist veterans, their dependents or survivors with questions concerning veterans benefits.

Skate Night scheduled Friday

LARNED — The Larned Recreation Commission will sponsor a Family Skate Night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. Only LRC roller skates will be allowed. Doors will be open at 5 p.m. For more information, contact the LRC at 620-285-6002.

Pheasants’ banquet Saturday

LARNED — The Pawnee Valley Pheasants Forever Banquet is scheduled Saturday at the Knights of Columbus. A  social hour starts at 6 p.m. The evening banquet begins at 7:30 p.m.
The chapter’s only fundraiser of the year support habitat, youth and educational projects and scholarships. All of the monies raised at the banquet are spent locally in the Pawnee Valley.
The banquet will feature the presentation of scholarships to Pawnee County students. A drawing for a brand new shotgun provides revenue for six $500 scholarships.

Alpha Kappa Master meets

LARNED — Julie Ford welcomed members of the chapter in her rural home Monday, Jan. 9. 
Several letters of correspondence from International were read. Rosie Rein led the Beta Drill “Song of Friendship.”  Glenna Melkus, last year’s queen, announced the Valentine Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Reidener Inn.  Personal items for the basket may be given to Margaret Larson at the library prior to the event. Alice Clapsaddle was elected 2011-2012 Valentine queen. 
Marcia King announced that she sent a sympathy card to Gary and Faye Grandy and circulated a letter from former member Sue Schuester of Lawrence.  In addition, the chapter received a phone call from Effie Smith of Marion, former member.  Connie Carlton reported that a donation has been given to the Dana Burger fund raiser and a thank you goes to Kappa Psi and Laureate Beta Nu chapters for spearheading the event.
The program “Highlights of New York Stores Christmas Windows,” was presented by Julie Ford. During the social hour, members played Larned Trivia. The Febr. 13 meeting will be at the home of Carol Jacobs with Glenna Melkus and Alice Clapsaddle presenting the program.
