Legion Chili Cookoff
scheduled Wednesday

LARNED — The Larned American Legion, Walter S. Chears Post 106, will sponsor its annual Chili Cook-off Wednesday at 115 E. 7th. Entries must be submitted starting at 5 p.m. with judging at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee. Grand prize will be $100 with prizes also being awarded for second and third places.
After the contest, chili will be available for $3. Refreshments and desserts will be provided by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary members. For more information call, (620) 804-1498.

Meeting scheduled

LARNED — Larned mayoral candidate Tayleene Van Norden will hold a Meet and Greet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Scraps, 612 Broadway.

Job Fair Thursday

LARNED — Kansas Works and Larned State Hospital will sponsor a Job Fair from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the LSH Auditorium. Complimentary hot dogs, chips and pop will be served. Positions include RN Senior, LPN Senior, social workers, laundry truck driver, facilities maintenance supervisor and entry level direct care. For information, call (620) 793-5445.

Fort Larned reopens

FORT LARNED — Fort Larned National Historic Site reopened Tuesday morning after closing Monday due to heavy snow and high winds.  Fort Larned National Historic Site, a unit of the U.S. National Park Service is six miles west of Larned.
Employees and volunteer partners are now completing buildings and utility systems assessments, and removing snow and ice from roads and walkways to assure visitor safety.

banquet Saturday

Rozel soup dinner
scheduled March 20

ROZEL — The Rozel United Methodist Church annual Soup Supper, originally scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed until Wednesday, March 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Soup, dessert and drinks will be served for a free-will donation.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Members of the guild gathered Tuesday in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 8th and Morris.
Discussion was held in regard to National Quilting Month during March.  The Quilting Bees will celebrate with four short demonstrations on Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Jordaan Library.  
The first demonstration will be on March 7 at 1 p.m. with the presentation on the “Braid in a Day” by Diann Morell. The public is invited.  
The fat quarter drawing “Presidents” for February was won by Opal Macy.  March fat quarter drawing will be “Wind.”
Announcements included the completion of ten prayer quilts during February.
The next meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. March 5 with quilting beginning at 5 p.m.

Show and Tell included three table toppers in Irish print by Diann Morell and one table topper in red/black/white by Alice Clapsaddle.
