LARNED — The Santa Fe Trail Association’s Wet-Dry chapter Vice President Rosetta Graff chaired the summer meeting on July 18 at the home of David and Alice Clapsaddle with 36 members and guests.
Following the welcome, an ice cream social on a very warm evening was enjoyed by all. A short business meeting included an update on the Susan Magoffin marker which will be placed on the Adam Apley’s property five miles northeast of Larned. Monies for the marker fund are now being received from members of the chapter.
Ranger Ellen Jones of Fort Larned National Historic Site and David Clapsaddle presented the traveling trunk program, “The Boy and the Bullfrog” with an original story by Clapsaddle. Members enjoyed the story and artifacts geared for use in the lower primary grades. Jones informed the group that a grant for travel expenses for schools has been received.
Schools interested in receiving grant monies for travel to the Fort Larned should contact Fort Larned National Historic Site, 620-285-0000. This new traveling trunk is one of eight traveling trunks.
The general area of concentration for the Wet/Dry Routes Chapters is between the Ash Creek Crossing and Fort Dodge, in the Kansas counties of Pawnee, Edwards and Ford.
