At the end of September, Great Bend’s Mega Motor Weekend will offer three events for the entire family. The Great Bend Airfest, Lucas Oil Drag Racing and the Hahn Brothers Shootout will all take place the weekend of Sept. 28-30.
“These events are important to the community — especially the Airfest. The airport will celebrate 75 years,” Great Bend Municipal Airport Manager Martin Miller said. “We are very excited to see these wonderful planes and have such a great event for the community.”
This year’s Airfest is a special occasion because it will feature the only two B-29 Bombers that are still flying.
In addition, there will be 20 planes on display and the airport is expecting over 150 private pilots flying in for the show.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the last two flying B-29 Bombers, Fifi and Doc, at the same location together,” Miller said. “We are very fortunate that this will happen right here in Great Bend.”
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress was flown primarily during World War II and the Korean War.
