Great Bend High School’s Madrigal Pops Choir has been singing at local venues almost daily — and sometimes twice a day — heading into the winter break. The choir will present a free concert from 12:15-12:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Great Bend Public Library.

Vocal music instructor Susan Stambaugh said the choir members have stayed busy while fighting bouts of strep throat and other seasonal maladies.

They are accompanied by Lorrie Stickney on the keyboard.

The Madrigals sang for the Great Bend Noon Kiwanis on Wednesday and finished the program with their seasonal signature song, “Reach Out and Touch.”

The GBHS A Capella Choir, which includes the Madrigals, is planning a trip to Washington, D.C., in March and students are raising money for the trip. Members of the public and “rent a student” to put up or take down Christmas lights, wrap presents and do all sorts of chores for a donation, Stambaugh said. Catch up with them after today’s concert or call 793-1521, extension 138. Just remember, Friday is the last day of the semester; winter recess starts after that and students won’t be back in school until Jan. 3.

The choir will also hold a hog feed fundraiser in January.
