ELLINWOOD — The school district has made some video improvements to the gym to showcase student athletes, the Ellinwood School Board heard at its regular meeting. These improvements will be unveiled during the game with Hoisington Friday evening.

During his administrative report, Superintendent Ben Jacobs brought up having a closed lunch for the school for discussion. He reported that there was an incident on Monday.

The school is having to consider a new athletic league. It was reported that the Mid Central Activities Association League may break up, and the school will have to make a move to another league. The school will make application to the CPL.

The board discussed its goal to increase extra-curricular participation.

Jacobs reported that the school was in OK shape with the budget.

After some discussion, the board decided to discontinue participation in the Schools for Fair Funding. It would have cost the district $2600 to participate, and the Coke money no longer paid for it all. Jacobs said there are still 40-50 districts participating, but that all schools will see the benefit. He also said if the money wasn’t in the treasury, than the schools won’t get funded anyway. The motion passed with a 6-0 vote.

The district will have a ribbon cutting for the new bus barn, although the date has not been set.

The board approved:

•A cooperative agreement with Macksville for two years in softball. With cooperative agreements, the additional students will move the team to class 3A.

•Supplemental contracts for Lyle Stickney, head boys high school tennis; Brad Birzer, head middle school tennis; Leroy Thill, assistant tennis; and Dusty Beam, assistant track.

•A contract for Superintendent Ben Jacobs through the 2013-14 school year.
